The balafon I have studied most is from Guinea, West Africa. It is a xylophone (Greek for wood sound), and is also known simply as bala. I have had the privilege of learning extensively from Naby Camara and Mohamed Kouyate. While in South Africa, I didn't have a balafon with me and sorely missed it, so I taught myself to make one. I love the balafon and desire to continue to grow as a balafon musician.
