Right now in my life I am activating many diverse skills. It is partly for survival, but also it feels like a process of coming into my full potential.
In music I find meaning and purpose. I have it in my blood (my mother, grandfather), and in my training. When I'm on stage, a certain deep calling is fulfilled. I like the idea that music helps people feel what they need to feel. I want to find and create more opportunities to play music professionally.
In graduate school I began to be interested in dance. Eventually I was a dancer in two performing ensembles. I developed the perspective that dance and music are integral parts of each other. I sometimes teach music and dance in the same class. I like the idea that dancing is teaching joy.
In teaching I find meaning and purpose. I see teaching as helping people see the light in themselves. Teaching children is the most challenging thing I've ever done.
In computer work I have skills that allow me to help people and also to be creative. I've found that I do not thrive doing full-time computer work, however, computer work is an important piece of me.
Woodworking (and other mechanical skills) are also in my blood via my father and his father. These skills often allow me to fix or build something myself. It can be meditative and creative for me.
