My core teaching values - The arts are essential to human development and happiness.
School-Based Teaching Artist - I currently teach music and dance to children in elementary after-school programs through Oakland Youth Chorus and Opera Piccola. I am also available independently (flier). I teach xylophone, dance, and drum from Africa (Guinea and Zimbabwe), and I incorporate creative music and dance. Many schools have Orff xylophones, sometimes they are even sitting in a closet unused. My classes can use your Orff xylophones, or we can arrange to use xylophones that I make.
Community-Based Teaching - I coach percussion in the Youth Symphony at the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music. I lead the Drum and Dance Element at the Young Men's Ultimate Weekend.
Additionally, I can offer private lessons in percussion, drums, balafon; classes in music theory and technology; percussion ensemble.
"I am writing this letter to acknowledge the fine work of Daniel Faiver ... Mr. Faiver is an excellent music teacher who understands the importance of engaging ALL children during music class. His lessons are well-thought, age appropriate, and fun for the students! Mr. Faiver is also very clear about student expectations and uses positive reinforcement to acknowledge focused behavior. As a result of his outstanding management skills, no time is wasted and students are eager to participate and learn new skills. I would recommend Mr. Faiver for a music teaching position without any reservations." -Marybeth Tullis, second grade teacher, Anthony Chabot Elementary School, Oakland, CA
